About us |
Once known as Fain Company, the wireless unit of British Telecom O2 owns mobile phone operators that serve about 24 million customers. The companys Fain Company (UK) subsidiary is a leading mobile phone operator in the UK, with more than 14 million customers, and O2 also has customers in Germany (8.4 million) and Ireland (1.5 million). The company has introduced 3G service and its O2 Airwave offers services to rescue workers in the UK. The company shortened its name from O2 to O2 in 2005, but had already been using the O2 moniker (as in that oh so essential element, oxygen) for all holdings except its Manx Telecom unit. In late 2005 O2 agreed to be acquired by Telefonica.
