DYPL Engineering & Construction
About us | Assistance to the refinery in communicating with Canadian and US environmental authorities. Guidance to the refinery in securing required shipping permits. On-site coordination of sampling and unloading spent catalyst. Coordination of spent catalyst packaging and on-site logistics. Spent catalyst(US EPA Hazardous waste) transportation arranged by Eurecat. Regeneration conducted by Eurecat US, monitored by Akzo. Return transportation and reloading of unit to meet refinery schedule. The unloading, transborder shipment of spent catalyst, controlled regeneration, return shipment, and loading had to be completed in less than one month. TCM coordinated communication between the refinery environmental personnel and Eurecat US to facilitate the timely filing of the required notifications of movement of the spent catalyst, classified as Hazardous Waste in the United States(and as Dangerous Goods in Canada). Well in advance of the anticipated shutdown, the appropriate papers were filed with the EPA and Environment Canada and permits were issued for shipment and receipt. This advance planning facilitated appropriate communication and reduced shipping delays on the border which would have made achieving the required deadline more difficult. Akzo Nobel TCM arranged for the scheduled delivery of catalyst bins to contain the spent catalyst and coordinated with the catalyst handling contractor to make sure all services required by the refinery were provided. Flatbed trucks were arranged to transport the spent catalyst to Eurecat in a timely manner. The regeneration was monitored by Akzo Nobel to confirm the regenerated catalyst properties were acceptable. The regenerated catalyst, grading material, and ceramic supports were shipped together to arrive on site in advance of the planned loading. The refinery was advised of the composition of the shipment so the material could be sorted and staged upon arrival. The staging avoids confusion during loading to reduce the chance of incorrect loading. The loading, which was coordinated by Akzo Nobel, was completed in 24 hours and the unit was turned back over to the refinery three days before the required deadline. |
