Product Description

Specifications: Our natural pozzolan is extracted from a surface mine located in Lassen County, California. This deposit originated 26 million years ago when nearby volcanoes erupted and the volcanic ash was deposited into freshwater lakes. These freshwater lakes contained large amounts of protozoa called Diatoms.

The skeleton of this tiny organism is extremely porous and adsorbent which allows for the efficient movement of water that adds to the permanent availability of water to turf and plants. Many of our clients are experiencing savings in irrigation costs from 35- 50%.

We currently market two products to the turf and landscape industries including a 12 x 28 mesh calcined product and a minus quarter inch raw material. The 12x28 is a calcined or kiln fired product.

This material contains little in the way of fines as compared to our raw product, has good hydraulic conductivity, moisture retention, CEC, and high total porosity. This material is utilized as a top dressing subsequent to aerification, applied with drill and fill machines or blended into the topsoil during construction.

The calcined product is designed to work in both clay and sandy soils. The -raw material is typically utilized during the construction phase of projects prior to turf installation and can be applied to nursery stock. The raw material has proven to have tremendous affinity with sandy soils.

Available specifications include an analytical summary regarding moisture retention, capillarity, expansion and compaction, a summary letter from Thomas Turf Services(a USGA approved lab), application guidelines, a reference list and a moisture release curve.

The moisture release curve, used in conjunction with the physical measurements attachment, clearly indicates that Lassenite Soil Amendments will not only absorb much more moisture than the top competitive products when placed in the soil profile, but will release the vast majority of the retained moisture to the root zone in advance of the theoretical wilt point.

Lassenite is particularly well suited for slopes that generate localized dry spots, areas prone to compaction such as sports fields, golf courses, and residential and commercial turf and landscaped properties looking to reduce their water consumption.
