Introduction
Ethnobotanical records indicate widespread historical use of this succulent cactus, as a prized food and remedy for a broad spectrum of illness. Modern clinical studies have been mostly focused on blood sugar regulation or hyperglycemic individuals with Diabetes Type II, yet investigational studies have led researchers to believe that Nopal as a whole food is most likely an effective support for Metabolic Syndrome or Syndrome X, with compounded health benefits in the areas of: Hyperglycemia, Hyperlipidemia, Weight control, Gastro-intestinal support, Inflammation and Oxidative stress.

Benefits
Natural Superior Quality Nopal Powder
Excellent Source of Soluble and Insoluble Fiber
May manage post-prandial hyperglycemia
High MW Polysaccharides
Beneficial as an anti-inflammatory
Support healthy blood lipid profile
Rich in Flavanoids/antioxidants
Ideal for formulation in Weight Management meals

Hyperglycemia
At least 12 human studies have revealed consistent reductions in post-prandial blood sugar, when consuming Nopal with a meal. Reductions as high as 50% are documented and interestingly the effect was not observed in healthy individuals unless in a hyperglycemic state.

Hyperlipidemia
A recent clinical study showed a 15% decrease in LDL cholesterol and 12% decrease in triglycerides. Studies demonstrated similar results including HDL increases, as have numerous animal trials, one of which indicated a mechanism of cholesterol synthesis inhibition.

Weight Management
Nearly half of the dry powder mass of Nopal is indigestible fiber which not only provides bulk, but cleans the colon after suppressing appetite in the upper GI(15-16). High amino acid, vitamin and mineral content makes Nopal an effective and nutritious low-calorie food ingredient.

Gastrointestinal support
Nopal’s high content of soluble fiber, mucilaginous polysaccharides and unique glycoproteins have been shown to exert a soothing and healing effect on damaged and irritated gastric mucosa.
