Over molding of an elastomer material can add a soft touch feel to a part as well as ergonomic features , it can also function as a dual purpose design to add a seal to two part helves ;

Over molding can also be utilized to mold plastic cover metal parts to fully or partially encompass the part ;( soft material is TPE , hard material is  ABS)
