Fence with the tighter 3" spacing at the bottom of the fence provides "predator control." All but the smallest predators can't get in, and small animals (i.e. fawns or lambs) can't get out. The distance between the stay (vertical) wires varies from 3" to 6" to 9" to 12". The closer the stays the stronger the fence.

Fence with a 6" stay spacing is the most common, however 3" is suited to higher pressurec or higher security areas, whereas 12" can be used in low pressure areas.The fence becomes fully "predator proof" with 3" spacing between the horizontal line wires and 3" spacing between the vertical stay wires.
