Heavy and tank-like, this thing is dressed to the nines and has every feature one could imagine, not to mention audiophile-grade components and mechanisms. (The drawer-loading mechanism by itself is enough to amaze! ). Unit comes with original remote and manual. So, you might be asking what\'\'s wrong with me - why would I sell one of these?
Simply put, MD just does\'\'t meet my needs anymore, as just this week I\'\'ve upgraded to a hi-res (uncompressed 96/24) recorder for my archiving of LP\'\'s,78\'\'s and tapes. I\'\'ve had this deck for barely a week, but I\'\'ve decided to give it a better home.
The deck itself was purchased second-hand for nearly $400, and is cosmetically and functionally in very good to excellent condition.
There\'\'s only a few issues I can find, and all of them are superficial: The display has some faded segments (common to all decks produced in 1998), but of course is still readable, just not as bright as it would have been when new.
Secondly, the AMS knob is a bit touchy from overuse, but I can\'\'t imagine using it much anyway when the remote is so much more convenient for editing and controlling this deck. Lastly, there\'\'s a few scratches near the back on the top plate from whatever deck the last owner placed on top of it, though you wouldn\'\'t see these if it were placed in a rack.
Beyond that, the deck still sounds and records like brand new! It seems to have no problems whatsoever with longer blanks, pre-recorded MD\'\'s, or old discs, playing all of them flawlessly. Recordings are as sharp, involving and clear as you would ever be able to achieve with MiniDisc, and sound fantastic over a good system.
