Australia Black Urea is a Fertilizer product. Key specs — Origin: Australia.
Product Description
Specifications: Black urea is urea coated in an energy packet (carbon), for the nitrogen in urea to eventually get to the plant, microorganisms need to convert the urea to ammonium to nitrate then the plant can take it up, once inside the plant the plant reduces the nitrate back to ammonium and then into amino acids (proteins).
Along the way much of the nitrogen is lost due to many different reactions, volatilization as ammonia, leaching as nitrate from the soil, denitrification through organisms, the plant itself may not be able to use all the nitrate it takes up because of a lack of phosphorus, molybdenum or other trace elements that make enzymes.
High nitrate in the plant is what insects look for as its a sign of weakness in the plant and the insect wants to take it out.
Black urea helps resolves much of these issues, still not 100% though, in the soil the coating holds the nitrogen in place to help reduce volatilization and leaching, it stimulates biological activity (its food for them) so that the conversion process happens more easily and more completely, the plant can take up the nitrate more readily as black urea helps to increase the rate that water/nitrogen/carbon can cross the cell membranes into the root system, the energy in the coating then helps the plant to reduce the n to amino acids more completely.
Its a matter of making small efficiency gains in each step of the whole process that add up to a big gain for the grower.
