Gaseous pollutants from the air stream will be adsorbed and trapped into the nanoporous cavities of the nanoporous materials, harmful Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) would be broken down catalytically into non-harmful small size molecules, such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) molecules.
The smaller size CO2 and H2O would no longer reside in the pores of the nanoporous materials. They would then leave the cavities, leaving the cavities as regenerated sites for the later coming reactions. Hence, no secondary pollutant will be produced as some conventional air purifiers do.
