Independent consultant, am based in Delhi, India. Until recently was a VP of a financial consulting company in New Delhi(India)heading the corporate finance practice. I have helped a variety of companies in case preparation and raising finances(debtequity, preferred stock) from various investors(banksIndian Financial Institutions, Foreign Institutional Investors, VCs(domesticforeign), corporates, individuals, mutual funds, multi lateral agencies etc. ) including advising(underwritingmarketing) on IPOs(actual participation was over 700 IPOs during my tenure as VP). Have been in this business in India for about 16 years now, prior to this was working in corporate finance department of a French bank in New York. US MBA(Finance&MIS)&an Engineering Degree from India. Age 50 years.
My current areas of interest are:
·Venture and private equity funding for technology based product and service companies&branded consumer goods.
· Project financing: All industries.
·Strategic partnerships and mergers/acquisitions: In the technology space, includes cross border transactions mainly across the India&the US-Europe.
I work with most VCs interested in India. Includes a few in the Silicon Valley. The financing from VCs in India is now most favorable to companies that can show that their business model exploits the comparative advantage that India has to offer as a fulfillment/development center and the technology insights and market potential of the US/Europe and wish to use some of the financing to setup/acquire/merge or expand in India. Incase the entity to be funded is also India incorporated the VCs that may be approached are more; else there still are possibilities but fewer.
The industries that currently qualify for VC funding are Information Technology(speciallyhigh value niches), Remote Managed Services(BusinessProcess Outsourcing, network management, disaster management), Biotechnology, Bio-informatics, Research&Development&Design Services, Media(includesanimation).
In the strategic partner ship and, M&A areas, India has now a lot to offer via a large talent pool, which has been made relatively easy to access even remotely through advances in telecommunications. The possibilities exist numerous areas from IT, call centers to specialized R&D, design services and animation.
