Synthesis of hydrogen chloride by burning hydrogen gas and chlorine gas in graphite HCl acid synthesis equipment has proved to be an economical and reliable operation. This is true particularly in those processes where chlorine gas is produced as a by-product or where hydrogen chloride or hydrochloric acid is required for on-site use. Typical uses occur in brine electrolysis, vinyl chloride manufacture, paper and pulp production and various metallurgical processes.
Synthesis unit demonstrate their capability in operation through their unquestioned advantages:
- Production of hydrochloric acid in a concentration of 1 to 40 % HCl acid from chlorine and hydrogen, using water or weak hydrochloric acid as the absorbing liquid.
- Hydrochloric acid can be produced to any specification, ranging from technical or chemical quality to foodstuffs quality.
- Chlorine residual gas can be combusted together with the concentrated Cl2 gas and H2 gas to produce HCl.
- Weak acid can be fed into the absorber as absorbing liquids and brought up to the required acid concentration.
- The energy can be recovered in the form of steam or hot water by suitable adaptation of the combustion chamber.

There are two kinds of synthesis units for matching various requirement - SSL Model Water Jacketted Graphite Synthesis Furnaces & Triad Graphite Synthesis Units.
- SSL Model Water Jacketed Graphite Hydrochloric Acid Synthesis Furnaces Hydrochloric acid synthesis furnaces is the bottom-mounted burner or upward-pointing flame. The safety-disc overpressure safety system is therefore located at the top of the furnace. When the safety disc ruptures, gases escape from the synthesis plant at a safe distance.
- Triad Graphite Hydrochloric Acid Synthesis Units Integrating three phase (Burning, absorbing, cooling) of producing Hydrochloric acid synthesis into one plant, "three-in-one" synthesis furnaces have advance characteristic of compact structure, small bulk, high producing efficiency.
