Zybash(so named because metal cutting was our first application) CNC gantry systems are designed to move along a programmed route, performing an operation either continuously, or at specified points. A torch, tool, or other device is raised and lowered, and turned on and off under the control of your PC at each such point. Here, a 1 1/2 HP router is being used to make signs. A common application is the use of a machine plasma torch to cut shapes from metal. Shapes can be drawn in our CAD software, scanned, or imported from another program. Our software duplicates the desired shapes, automatically adjusts for the width of the tool, inserts lead-ins and lead-outs, and nests the pieces into the smallest possible area. Similar to plasma cutting, but with the capability of cutting steel up to a foot or more thick, is oxy-fuel cutting. Here, a number of hexagonal shapes are being cut from 1/2 steel. Water jets are becoming less expensive, although they are still costly. They use a high pressure jet of water containing abrasives to cut a vast array of materials ranging from paper to metal. Here, a customer has constructed a water jet from surplus items acquired locally. Lasers are just as versatile as water jet, but with less mess and clean-up. Low power lasers are available for less than one would think. Lasers powerful enough to cut steel, are still out of reach of most small businesses. Laser Here, a customer has mounted a sandblasting head in such a manner that it can execute a pattern. The door swings down to contain the debris when the unit is functioning. The sandblaster is turned on and off under program control. Pattern sandblasting Here a high-speed cutting tool has been mounted for the purpose of cutting kitchen counter laminate. Cutting laminate A half-inch portable drill is being used to automatically drill holes in a particular pattern. Here, only a single piece is being drilled. It is possible to drill aluminum, brass, wood, fiber, and light steel. Many pieces can be placed in a jig on a flat surface to locate them, and drilled one after the other. One of our customers uses his machine to drill all the holes in the cribbage boards his company manufactures. Drilling A hole saw can be used in place of a drill bit to cut large diameter holes is a desired pattern. |
