KC ® Pearlescent Pigments KC Pearl Pigments is a new series in the pearl pigments family which has the capacity to show the elegant luster and color of the natural pearl, shell, butterfly, fish and metal. KC pearlescent pigments are pigments which in comparison to conventional pigments demonstrate luster as an additional property. They consist of flat, small, thin platelets with relatively large diameters and smooth surfaces. The characteristic properties of their flat structure, high refractive index and transparency create effects in transparent media which due to the multiple reflection of light, match the luster of pearls of mother-of-pearl. KC pearl luster pigments can be used to achieve metal effects without incurring the disadvantages of metals or metal alloys. KC pearl luster pigments consist of thin platelets of the natural mineral mica, coated with Titandioxide and /or Iron(III)oxide. KC pearl luster pigments are available in different particle size distributions. Depending on the size of the particles the pearl luster or colour luster can be varied from a silky luster to a glittery sparkle. The pigments are nontoxic, do not present a risk to the environment and be used for food packaging. KC is resistant to dilute acid and alkali. The pigments are noncombustible and noninflammable. They do not conduct electricity and withstand temperatures up to approximately 800℃. Certain pigment preparations are stable at even higher temperatures (1200℃).
