Virtual Internet became the first UK public company to become an official ICANN accredited registrar in October 2000; this allows the company to directly interface with the Shared Registry System (SRS). The accreditation means Virtual Internet has the technical capability necessary to comply both with the strict criteria for ICANN and with the technical requirements of the SRS. Virtual Internet Plc's joint venture application with Register.com for the new Top Level Domain for professionals '.PRO' has been approved by ICANN. The joint venture company will run the '.PRO' registry under the name RegistryPro. In January 1999, Virtual Internet floated on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange, and in April 2000 it completed a $50 million fundraising and moved to the official list of the London Stock Exchange.
