A list of companies that do not offer this improvement.
The new features include 1 Rate of oil drops per unit run time are facilitated and automatic.2 There would be no need for human intervention to check for empty lubricator, no flow in in the case if turned off, or too little or too much.3 The new feature is to have the oil drop sensed, controlled and monitored with alarm signal available if out of control(ie empty) 4 Most equipment has an existing plc which this unit could be interfaced with or a suitable control circuit can be built.5 If out of control which would ordinarily be empty should occur an indicating light or audible alarm could be triggered to alert that service is needed or in this case the resevoir filled.
As previously indicated the purpose/function of the new feature is to automatically detect, control, and monitor the rate per unit run time oil consumption and signal when too much or too little or none at all is flowing thru the pneumatic system. The reasons for doing so are several. It would be reasonable to project that a fully lubricated cylinder would cycle at least 1% quicker than one that is dry. This may well mean at least 1% throughput increase across a corporation.1 car built with no labor cost out of every 100 seems pretty attractive to me.
Experience tells me that relying on people to monitor oil flow and whether the lubricator is full won't work for several reasons which are as follows 1 lubricators are often behind panels that seldom are opened.2 lubricators are seldom set to the proper drip rate. It can take over 1/2 hour hour to adjust properly manually due to different machine use, cyclic nature and dwell time.3 the very few times that lubricators are filled, they are often turned off for several reasons: I. Impatience to see proper drip rate leads to too much oil flow and a mess on the floor. II. If turned off after filling they appear full and that proper maintenance has been performed. III. Since many pneumatic sysytems are running dry or without lubrication due to these problems automatic detection, control and monitoring would help police lubrication which would also extend the life of air motors, valves, solenoids and cylinders which are meant to be lubricated. IV. Proper pneumatic lubrication will allow for quicker and smoother machine operation. V. Running pneumatic systems dry leaks more air. Running the watchdog pneumatic lubricator would prevent blow by, thus less horsepower will be used by air compressors. A residual cost savings in power should be realized.
It would be amazing how many pneumatic system problems would not occur to begin with if proper lubrication of same are achieved. Instead of waiting for a machine repairman( mechanic ) to shut the machine down and disconnect an air motor, cylinder or other component air line to squirt oil into the already ailing air motor, cylinder or worse yet have to replace it do to excessive wear from lack of lubrication, the machine would continue to run reliably. Without doubt, there would be other unrealized benefits.
Incidentally some manufacturers went to prelubed(greased) valves and cylinders due to inability to control these lubricators due to previously indicated problems. With a watchdog pneumatic lubricator being used these prelubed components will last longer than they would ordinarily also.
