My husband and I recently purchased a buggy with Option Audio equipment from Mark Speelmeyer which had been based on photographs sent and details provided to my son over the phone. We paid the full sale amount agreed of $5,000 after getting a loan and had the loan company pay directly into his account. We arranged for a haulage company to pick up the electric vehicle from Mark Speelmeyer's home address in Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast, 1071 Edgecliff Drive and had already paid $220 for this to occur. When we arrived the electric vehicle was damaged in many places which had not been portrayed in the photographs online (these were totally different) and as he already had our money in the bank and we had paid a haulage company to pick up we discussed our concerns but had the vehicle picked up as we did not want to have no money and no product. We contacted Mark Speelmeyer on several occasions and our son, who had initially negotiated with him over the phone and been assured the buggy was in excellent condition with the only requirement being to change a gasket in the brake cylinder. Unfortunately, Mark was less than honest. He also had an amount of $100 that we had initially paid as a deposit above and beyond the sale price of $5,000 which he stated he would refund to us. There has been a great deal of negotiation to have the $100 refunded and then to receive some recompense for the damage that we will now have to pay to have fixed as there is a considerable amount of cracking in the fibreglass, latches broken on the doors, one headlight with no globe and very yellow which no manner of attempt to clean has resolved. After advising that we would take legal congress to have him meet his promises to return our $100 deposit and recompense us $250.00 towards fixing the many faults, constant messaging and pressure we received the $100. There has been no attempt, although many promises, to pay the $250 into our account but this has still not occurred to date.
Our only option is to advise companies dealing with Mark Speelmeyer to be aware that he may be in financial difficulties and do business with caution. His promises are fruitless and it seems his company is actually either already closed down (the website no longer opens) or is in the process of possibly liquidating.
